Frank Thuijsman is professor Strategic Optimization and Data Science at the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) of Maastricht University. For several years he has been Director of Studies for Knowledge Engineering and in 2014 he successfully launched the program KnowledgeEngineering@Work. In this program, the best BSc students of Knowledge Engineering combine their study with a 2-year, half-time job at nearby businesses. The students work on academically challenging tasks to find solutions for problems in data science and decision making. In only two years time, 44 contracts were signed with local businesses running from multinationals to start-ups. Participating students come from all over the world.
As for research, Frank Thuijsman chairs the research group Networks and Strategic Optimization at DKE. His research is on (Evolutionary) Dynamic Game Theory, with a current focus on modeling tumor growth. He has had visiting positions at the University of California at Los Angeles and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
