As an Graduation student at ORTEC you will be part of a unique organization and team!
The aim of this thesis is to structure unstructured data by using cognitive technology in combination with conventional technology to gain legal knowledge from a text corpus.
ORTEC is exploring the possibilities of cognitive computing and it’s added value for our customers. Cognitive computing is a new opportunity to extract knowledge from unstructured data. This type of data represents 80% of the all the data available on a global scale. Till today it was quite a hassle to extract knowledge from unstructured data while social media generates billions of bytes of this type of data.
The case that we have on the table is a legal case. By collecting unstructured legal documents, uploading these into a Corpus we would like to experience the added value of the cognitive technology and if it’s capable of extracting knowledge. In this specific case, we would like to extract specific knowledge from labor laws. We like to use the knowledge to predict the outcome of a law case and see if it is necessary for a person start a law case or to settle the case. It is an open case in the sense that we would like to know the possibilities of cognitive computing instead of a case where the result must be met.
We expect that the project will be done using IBM Watson software.
